Fraunhofer is Europe’s largest application-oriented research organization with more than 80 research units, including 60 Fraunhofer Institutes, at different locations in Germany. Their research efforts are geared entirely to people’s needs: health, security, communication, energy and the environment.
In the ECOCHAMPS project the Fraunhofer Institute for Transportation and Infrastructure Systems (IVI) is involved. Founded in 1992 (ancestor institute founded already in 1957), the Fraunhofer IVI is a research institute for applied sciences in the field of transportation – mainly road and public transport – as well as infrastructure. Located in Dresden, approx. 90 employees carry out applied research, development and application of various transport related subjects. These include, amongst others, new vehicle concepts for public transport and commercial vehicles, hybrid and all-electric driveline systems and a variety of component tests like batteries, fuel cells and capacitors.
